According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Toronto Raptors could trade for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant

The Raptors traded for Kawhi Leonard in 2018 even though the forward only had one year left on his contract. Leonard led Toronto to the 2019 championship and then left for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Durant has one year left on his contract. The Suns will trade the future Hall of Famer soon.

“What you’re hearing now on Kevin Durant, there are teams out there that are saying, you know what, we know he’s only under contract for one more year at about $55 million. We’re willing to gamble on him. And the Toronto Raptors are one of those teams,” Stein said. “And the Toronto Raptors have already done this. They’ve already gambled on a Hall-of-Fame-bound forward who had one year left on his deal, traded for Kawhi Leonard, won a championship, and immediately lost Kawhi Leonard.”

The Raptors went 30-52 this season. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2022.

Durant turns 37 in September. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

A top 75 player of all time, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder and back-to-back rings and Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018.

Durant is also a four-time scoring champion.

Along with the Raptors, Durant has been linked to the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks in trade talks.
