Report: Several NBA Agents Believe Giannis Antetokounmpo Will Request Trade From Bucks

According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, several NBA agents believe Giannis Antetokounmpo will request a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks have won just one postseason series since winning the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns.

“Several agents polled at the recent NBA combine in Chicago believe the former NBA MVP will direct the Bucks to send him to his preferred location, whatever that might be,” Pincus wrote. “The closer he gets to the end of his contract, the greater his power to dissuade other suitors.”

The Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of this year’s playoffs in five games.

To make matters worse, All-Star point guard Damian Lillard tore his left Achilles tendon in Game 4 and could miss the entire 2025-26 season.

The Bucks, who lost to the Pacers in the first round of last year’s playoffs as well, signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. Antetokounmpo, 30, will make $54.1 million next season.

One of the best players in NBA history, Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. He has spent his entire career with the Bucks. The superstar forward has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.

Antetokounmpo doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so if he requests a trade, the Bucks can send him anywhere.

A future Hall of Famer, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Bucks this season in 67 games. The Greek Freak is an MVP finalist, although Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is widely expected to win the award.

Since winning the title in 2021, the Bucks lost the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2022 playoffs, lost to the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2023 playoffs and lost to the Pacers in the first round of the 2024 and 2025 playoffs.

“If Antetokounmpo, 30, hopes to win another title, he should probably push for a new opportunity,” Pincus wrote. “And he needs to do it well before June’s NBA draft, when teams have maximum flexibility heading into July free agency and the kind of assets needed for the Bucks to comply.”
