According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat are the two teams most frequently cited as potential landing spots for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant.
The Suns intend to trade Durant no later than the 2025 NBA Draft on June 25.
“The Suns, sources say, are hoping to acquire a measure of quality draft capital as part of the return for Durant, sources say, and thus have been conducting due diligence on various levels of first-round prospects in the belief they will obtain at least one meaningful selection in the draft taking place 11 days from now. At present, Phoenix only holds the 29th and 52nd picks,” Fischer wrote.
“Things are obviously fluid at this stage, but the two teams most frequently cited as potential landing spots for Durant entering Saturday’s business, league sources say, were Minnesota and Miami.”
Timberwolves star shooting guard Anthony Edwards and Durant are close friends. They were on teammates on Team USA last summer. Edwards has said several times that Durant is his favorite player of all time.
Miami and Minnesota tried to trade for Durant in February. Heat All-Star center Bam Adebayo was on Team USA last summer, too.
Durant turns 37 in September. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
A top 75 player of all time, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.
KD won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder and back-to-back rings and Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
Durant is also a four-time scoring champion.
Along with the Heat and Timberwolves, Durant has been linked to the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks in trade talks.
Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t pick his next team.
