The Rockets are extending an $8,014,182 qualifying offer to forward Tari Eason, making him a restricted free agent, Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports tweets. This confirms Iko’s report over the weekend that Houston was likely to give Eason his QO.
His cap hold will be $17,027,298 but Houston projects to be well over the cap anyway. The 17th overall pick in the 2022 draft, Eason averaged 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals on .416/.358/.776 shooting splits in 60 regular season appearances in 2025/26, including 34 starts (25.8 minutes per game).
Eason could be a prime backup or starter next season, depending upon whether the Rockets choose to move Kevin Durant.
The Rockets are also picking up their $2,584,539 option on JD Davison‘s non-guaranteed contract, Iko tweets. Davison, who is ineligible to be traded until July 8, will have his contract fully guaranteed if he’s still on the roster through Jan. 10.
Davison came off the bench in 28 games for the Rockets this past season, averaging 2.5 points and 1.3 assists in 7.8 minutes.
