Rockets' John Wall done for season with hamstring injury

Houston Rockets star guard John Wall won't take the court again this season.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that the 30-year-old with a worrisome injury history is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring issue. Wall, a five-time All-Star in his prime, last played in Friday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Wall appeared in 40 games during the 2020-21 season and averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds per contest. He missed the entire 2019-20 season with injuries to his heel and Achilles, and he played in only 32 games the previous campaign.

Houston, meanwhile, holds the NBA's worst record of 15-46 and has no reason to rush any veteran back for what are largely meaningless matchups. Per Spotrac, Wall's contract includes a player option worth $47.3 million for the 2022-23 season, and it's difficult to imagine he would receive more money were he to try to sign a new deal beforehand.

Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes reported last month that Wall and the Rockets had not discussed a buyout that would've potentially allowed him to join a contender before the playoffs.
