The Rockets may be getting a lift for Game 2, though it is far from certain.
Kevin Durant missed Houston’s Game 1 loss to the Lakers with a knee issue, and his status remains up in the air. According to The Athletic’s Will Guillory, Durant went through part of Monday’s practice and is officially listed as questionable.
There is a little more to it than just soreness.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Durant is dealing with a deep bruise in his right patellar tendon, suffered during a practice collision last week. The injury has led to swelling, pain, and limited range of motion. That last part may be the biggest factor.
“For Kevin Durant to miss a playoff game, that speaks to the severity,” Charania said.
Rockets coach Ime Udoka kept it simple when asked what he needs to see.
“Mobility,” he said. “The pain tolerance is one thing, but actually moving and feeling comfortable doing all the movements is going to be the biggest thing.”
Houston could certainly use him. The offense sputtered in Game 1, shooting 37.6 percent from the field and leaving points at the line, going 17-of-25 on free throws.
There is some optimism Durant can give it a go. Still, this may come down to how the knee responds over the next 24 hours.
Game 2 tips Tuesday night. The Rockets are hoping their best scorer is with them.
