Rumor: Kings Offered $63 Million Deal To Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors Would Get Malik Monk, 2030 First-Round Pick

The Sacramento Kings offered a three-year, $63 million deal to Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, according to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic.

In the sign-and-trade proposal, the Warriors would get Malik Monk and a 2030 first-round pick.

“As for the Kings, who last spoke with the Warriors earlier this week, team sources say they’ve offered a three-year, $63 million deal for Jonathan Kuminga in a proposal that would send veteran guard Malik Monk and their 2030 first-round pick (lottery protected) to the Warriors (that deal would require the Warriors to move more salary elsewhere to stay under the first apron, likely Moses Moody or Buddy Hield),” Amick wrote.

“If that pick didn’t convey, then the Warriors would get the least favorable of the Kings or San Antonio’s first-round pick in 2031. Those protections have been the primary sticking point, team sources said, as the Warriors have insisted that the first-rounder be unprotected. Thus, the stalemate.”

Kuminga wants to play for the Kings, according to NBA insider Marc J. Spears of ESPN. The swingman no longer wants to play for the Warriors.

“He wants to go,” Spears said. “He wants to go. And the Kings are offering a starting spot, power forward next to Keegan Murray, next to (Domantas) Sabonis. He’s talked on a Zoom call with Scott Perry, the GM, BJ Armstrong, the assistant GM, and also with their head coach. So he’s in. He wants to go there.”

Kuminga, who doesn’t have a good relationship with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Golden State last season in 47 games. The 22-year-old forward shot 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 66.8% from the free-throw line.

The Kings missed the playoffs last season, while the Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals in five games.

Kuminga was the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He enters next season with career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists with Golden State.
