San Antonio Spurs: Jeremy Sochan’s Confident Take About His Potential Will Catch Draymond Green’s Attention
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

While most of the attention has revolved around Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs still have other pieces that can have a bright future in the NBA. Among those guys is Jeremy Sochan, especially after his team won against the Golden State Warriors.

Sochan was selected by San Antonio using the ninth pick in the 2022 Draft. During his first year in the league, the 6’8″ Spurs rookie back then posted averages of 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. This season, tough, his numbers went up a bit to 11.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 64 games.

During Sochan’s sophomore campaign , head coach Gregg Popovich made him run the point for the Spurs, as opposed to his usual role as a forward. Unfortunately, this experiment didn’t yield any positive results for the Spurs as the team sunk to the bottom half of the NBA when 2023 ended.

With Sochan going back to playing forward, the Spurs’ sophomore can focus more on defending opposing players, getting a bucket or two, and handling the ball when needed. If this sounds familiar, this is how Draymond Green started for the Golden State Warriors almost a decade ago.

San Antonio Spurs’ Jeremy Sochan Makes Bold Claim About Draymond Green Noticing His Potential

Sochan believes that his game is evolving similarly to the Warriors star since both are defensive-minded forwards with a potential to facilitate the offense. The Spurs star explains more in a tweet by JeffGSpursKENS5 on X:

“I can become more than Draymond Green. But I always admire him when he talks to me and stuff. I always listen to him and just have open ears,” Sochan said.

For context, Draymond Green boasts averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. If Sochan wants to elevate his game to the level of Green, he has to learn how to defend different positions while providing San Antonio with a reliable option on offense.

In any case, Sochan is worth looking into as Wembanyama continues to improve this season. If all goes well, the Spurs will produce another piece worth keeping for the future.
