San Antonio Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama Makes His Career Goal Known

Even though he has only been in the NBA for two seasons, San Antonio Spurs Center Victor Wembanyama hopes to stay with the team for his whole career. Here is what the young center had to say recently, “I know that not every player in the NBA has the same ambitions, but it’s obviously my dream to spend my entire career with a single franchise… Here. In San Antonio.” Will Wembanyama get his wish?

Wembanyama came to the United States from France as one of the highest-touted prospects in years. He was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft. The big man won Rookie of the Year in 2024 and was poised to win Defensive Player of the Year this past season. That fell by the wayside when he was limited to 46 games. He was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right shoulder that prematurely ended his promising season.

Wembanyama was recently cleared for a return to the hardwood and should be 100% when the 2025-26 season tips off. He will come back to a Spurs team that is talented. They signed Luke Kornet and drafted Dylan Harper No. 2 overall last month. San Antonio’s roster also includes star Point Guard De’Aaron Fox and reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. Fox was acquired midway through the season to pair with Wembanyama. Unfortunately, they never played much with one another.

Final Thoughts

If Wembanyama gets his way and is a Spur for life, he will follow in the footsteps of all-time greats. Team legends David Robinson and Tim Duncan each only played in San Antonio. If Wemby only plays for the Spurs, it would be abnormal. NBA players playing for one team is seemingly a thing of the past.
