There's been a lot of discourse lately about what constitutes "a superstar" in the NBA. Historically, the one attribute that has differentiated stars from superstars is consistency. And the attribute that separates superstars from all-timers is sustained consistency.
Shai-Gilgeous Alexander on the trajectory of an all-time great. The Thunder star produced a total of 145 30-point games through the last three regular seasons, becoming the first player since Michael Jordan to average 30 PPG at 50 percent shooting for three consecutive seasons.
Now, SGA's regular-season exploits are spilling into the postseason. The Toronto native produced his 60th 30-point game of the season (including playoffs) when his Thunder closed out the Timberwolves in Game 5 of the conference finals on Wednesday. As a result, he surpassed Jordan for the most 30-point games by an MVP in decades.
That's not all — SGA became just the third player after Jordan and LeBron James to record 30 points and five assists in 10 playoff games in the same year. While Jordan and James did it thrice, SGA's trajectory suggests he is en route to doing the same in the coming years.
SGA is one of three players to reach 30+ points and 5+ assists at least 10 times in a single postseason!

The others?

Remarkably, the previous nine MVPs did not win the championship. SGA is four wins away from bucking the trend. Furthermore, he has the chance to become the fifth player to win the MVP, the scoring title and capture the championship.
A shot at history for SGA

SGA has earned the right to savor the moment and acknowledge that he's already in historic company. However, the Toronto native understands that none of the accomplishments would matter if his Thunder fail to capture the NBA championship in the coming weeks.
"Obviously happy for the moment, but this isn't our goal," he said after Wednesday's win, via ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "This isn't the end of the road. There was no special conversation. It was just, 'let's keep getting better. One more series to go.'"
This attitude is equally reminiscent of the all-time greats. The late Kobe Bryant famously said, "Job's not finished" after his Lakers took a 2-0 lead in the 2009 NBA Finals. SGA is clearly cut from the same cloth.
