Shams Charania Details Warriors' 'Aggressive' Offseason Plans After Playoff Exit

The Golden State Warriors will have to watch the final two rounds of the NBA playoffs from home, spending the summer wondering what might have been if Stephen Curry hadn't gone down with a hamstring strain in the first half of Game 1 during their second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

But Curry and Golden State won't have the luxury of spending too much time on the what ifs, as the superstar point guard will enter his age-38 season in 2025-26 and the Warriors proved to themselves and the rest of the league that they can still contend in the twilight of Curry's Hall of Fame career.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Thursday, May 15, that the franchise intends to attack this summer with the intention of adding meaningfully to a roster for one last push at a fifth championship title during the Curry-Draymond Green-Steve Kerr era of Warriors basketball.

"Sources told me the Warriors are going to be incredibly aggressive in the marketplace," Charania said, per 95.7 The Game

And while Charania didn't mention any specific names, the logical assumption is that he is referring, at least in part, to Milwaukee Bucks forward/center and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Charania reported earlier this week at the NBA draft lottery that Antetokounmpo is open to a trade that will take him elsewhere for the back end of his already legendary career, and the Warriors have long coveted the Bucks big man as a pairing alongside Curry.

Antetokounmpo has a strong personal relationship with Curry and attended his All-Star Weekend party in San Francisco in February, which was otherwise a Golden State-centric event. The Warriors have four first-round picks available to trade, as well as pick swaps and second-round assets.

However, any deal for Antetokounmpo is probably going to require the inclusion of Jimmy Butler to make the salary exchange work under current NBA trade rules. Both players are scheduled to make approximately $54 million next season, which renders the math of any hypothetical agreement surprisingly simple compared to some other Antetokounmpo trade scenarios around the league.

That said, Bobby Marks of ESPN recently reported that Golden State would probably need to involve a third team make the minutiae of an Antetokounmpo trade work.
