The Milwaukee Bucks have a new head coach, but according to NBA Insider Shams Charania, the team’s superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, wasn’t involved in the process. Well, that’s not entirely true, according to another report.
Trade rumors have hounded Giannis and the Bucks for months. In addition, reports about a rift between Doc Rivers and Antetokounmpo were all over the news as well. Now that Rivers is gone, the team has hired a new coach, Taylor Jenkins. Shams Charania reported that Giannis was not involved in his team’s selection process for its coaching vacancy. However, another NBA Insider, Sean Wright, questioned Shams for publicly spreading false information.
“The report from Shams [Charania] here that Giannis [Antetokounmpo] was not involved in the [Taylor] Jenkins hire, and that there is no communication between the sides, is entirely FALSE,” Wright called out Shams Charania on X.

“As I reported earlier this week, Antetokounmpo was involved in the process and met with Jenkins on Tuesday. Bucks brass has been adamant about working together with their superstar as they build for the future,” Wright added.
Shams getting called out by another reporter? That’s certainly a new one and was not on everyone’s bingo card for the day. Sources differ for each insider, and Wright just wanted to set the record straight on Antetokounmpo’s current relationship with the Bucks.
The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors would definitely go up a notch in the offseason. With the Bucks unsure which direction they will take, they may pull the trigger and trade their star, taking the rebuilding route. If that’s the case, four teams are reportedly vying for the one-time champ’s services.
“The Heat, Knicks, Timberwolves, and Warriors are all planning to make another aggressive run at Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason,” per Shams Charania, shared by Evan Sidery on X.
Of the four teams, the Miami Heat are getting the buzz when it comes to Giannis’ next destination. The two-time MVP has previously admitted he prefers Miami to Los Angeles in an interview. Well, at least when it comes to his vacation spot anyway.
