Shams Charania believes a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade is bound to have more suitors than just the New York Knicks.
This past summer, there was a lot of speculation about Giannis Antetokounmpo finally demanding a trade and leaving the Milwaukee Bucks.
After their third straight first-round exit in the playoffs, many believed that Antetokounmpo would call time on his stint in Milwaukee, especially in the aftermath of Damian Lillard’s Achilles injury.
However, the Bucks signed Myles Turner to try to keep Antetokounmpo happy. And it looked like that was enough to keep the star in his home.
Yesterday, we found out that the Knicks were close to trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer. And Shams Charania believes this story is an end, not a beginning.
Shams Charania shed some more insight on the current situation between Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
He believes that should Giannis Antetokounmpo make a decision to demand a trade this season, the Knicks wouldn’t be the only team in contention.
He expects the 20-25 game mark to be the turning point, should a trade request go through.
“If it does reopen in the season, this whole Giannis Antetokounmpo element to the NBA season, that window is no longer exclusive just to the Knicks.
“That is going to include other NBA teams. I expect it to go beyond just the Knicks.
“Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent have been figuring out which teams, if it does get to the point of a trade request, could find their way.
“Multiple teams could find their way. And I think that process will continue into the season, if it lends to that.
“But the quarter mark of the year, 25 games, I’m keeping my eyes out for that if I’m the Knicks and the rest of the league.”

As sensational as Giannis Antetokounmpo is as a player, the Milwaukee Bucks have to be growing tired of this ever-present threat of his potential departure.
Over the years, Giannis has used the idea of him leaving the Bucks to leverage the team into making some big moves. In 2020, he did it to help land Jrue Holiday, and it helped the Bucks win a title.
And in the summer of 2023, he did the same, which made the Bucks course-correct and trade for Damian Lillard.
Given that the Bucks are going to be paying for that decision for years to come, literally, at what point will the front office decide the price of keeping Antetokounmpo isn’t worth this ever-lasting anxiety?
If Giannis wants to leave the Bucks, he should simply put in a trade request and move on. He has been very indecisive on that front, and the Bucks have mortgaged their future just to keep him happy.
