Shaq Is Now GM at Sacramento State 2025

Alright, here is something I never thought I would type out today. Shaquille O’Neal is now the General Manager for the Sacramento State men’s basketball team. Yes, you read that right. The “Big Diesel” himself will work behind the scenes with the Hornets. It is unpaid, it is voluntary, and it is one hundred percent real. His son Shaqir just transferred, and now Shaq is diving in too. I do not even think the Big Sky Conference is ready for this level of attention.

From TNT To Sac State, Shaq Keeps Winning

So here is the deal. O’Neal is not coaching. He is not putting on a polo and drawing up plays. What he is doing is bringing serious credibility to a program that usually flies way under the radar. His official title is General Manager, which is kind of rare in college basketball, but it sounds like he will be helping with recruiting, player mentorship, and shaping the program in general. He is not collecting a check, but he does not need one either.

This is still Shaquille O’Neal. Four NBA titles. Hall of Fame. Media icon. Sheriff’s badge. DJ Diesel. Now a college basketball GM. The man has done it all and has no intention of slowing down. Sacramento State just became one of the most talked-about programs in the country overnight. They did it with one move.

This Is a Family Play and a Power Move

Here is where it gets even more interesting. Shaqir O’Neal transferred to Sacramento State from Florida A&M. This is not some random stunt or PR grab. Shaq is showing up because his kid is there, and he wants to help him and the team win. That alone makes this personal, and Shaq does not make rash decisions when his family is involved.

Also, the head coach is Mike Bibby now. Yeah, that Mike Bibby. Kings legend. Sacramento icon. He could hit five threes before you blink. So now Sacramento State has got Bibby on the bench, Shaq in the front office, and Shaqir on the court. If you do not think recruits will start taking calls from Sac State, I do not know what to tell you.

This Is Wild and I Love It

Look, I do not know how this is all going to go. It could take time. It might not blow up this season or even next. But what I do know is Sacramento State is on the map now. This is not a punchline. It is a real move. They have NBA blood in their veins now. Both on the court and behind the scenes.

Shaq being there changes things. It just does. The players are gonna take it seriously. Other teams are going to notice. Fans will show up just to say they saw it happen. This is one of those college basketball stories that people will remember years from now. The day Shaq joined the Sacramento State Hornets.

Even if this whole thing is a wild one-season experiment, it is still something college hoops need. It is fun. It is different. It is Shaq doing Shaq stuff in a way only he can. Sacramento State just became relevant, and I would not be shocked if more former players start doing things like this. Who says college basketball has to be boring? Not Shaq. Not Bibby. Not this squad. Buckle up, Hornets fans. This might get weird, it might get wild, but it is going to be worth watching.
