Sounds Like the Timberwolves Plan to Offer Mike Conley a Lucrative Coaching Job
Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations, Tim Connelly, changed the trajectory of the organization when he found a way to trade D’Angelo Russell in a three-team deal that landed veteran point guard Mike Conley.

It was this move that allowed the Rudy Gobert experiment to get back on the positive track, which in turn put the Wolves on a course to the Western Conference Finals. Conley’s arrival immediately changed Minnesota’s identity from that of a young, immature team that into a veteran-led squad that rarely lets the moment get too big.

And there is no mistake around Target Center and Mayo Clinic Square regarding just how important Mike Conley is to the Timberwolves’ newfound success. That’s why, according to local insider Charley Walters (Pioneer Press), it will be a surprise if the Wolves don’t offer Mike a “high paying assistant coaching position”, when his playing career is over.

It’ll be surprising if Mike Conley, 36, isn’t offered a high-paying assistant coaching job by the Timberwolves when his playing days are over. Meanwhile, Conley is guaranteed $21 million through the 2025-26 season.

If you have heard Mike Conley talk people or basketball, this news won’t surprise you either. We are talking one of the most calm, cool and collected cats in the NBA.

Not only that, but the 2024 NBA Teammate of the Year is a fountain of basketball knowledge who clearly knows how to package all that information and successfully deliver it to his peers in a way they understand.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks are back tonight for game 3, which is on the road, in Dallas. Going down 3-0 is not an option. The Wolves need to get a win tonight so they can flip the momentum back in their direction and guarantee a game 5 back in Minneapolis.

We will see if Mike Conley, who is questionable tonight with the same calf injury that has been bothering him for most of the NBA Playoffs, can use his leadership to help wake Anthony Edwards up.Because Minnesota needs Ant to be a much better version of himself going forward, if they are going to have any chance of climbing back into this series.
