The San Antonio Spurs acquired De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings at this year's NBA trade deadline, a deal netting them one of the top guards in the league.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves were quiet after making a major move in the offseason, trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
Even though the Spurs and Timberwolves made deals during this season's transactional period, both front offices remained aggressive up until the trade deadline.
According to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the Spurs and Timberwolves tried to trade for Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson.
Cam Johnson had a lot of interest at the trade deadline," Scotto told Megan Triplett of Yes Network. "Some other teams that I don’t think were mentioned I heard checked in: San Antonio Spurs, looking for some shooting around Victor Wembanyama. The Minnesota Timberwolves as well."
Johnson was the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns, who traded the UNC product to the Nets in the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade in February 2023.
Johnson signed a four-year, $94.5 million contract with the Nets in the summer of 2023. He's a career 39.2% shooter from beyond the arc.
Johnson is an attractive player on the trade market since he's an accurate shooter from deep.
It will be fascinating to see how many teams call the Nets this offseason about a Johnson trade. The swingman is averaging a career-high 18.8 points this season for Brooklyn.
