Steph Curry played for a second time in two nights on Wednesday, following a three-game absence for the Golden State Warriors. The former back-to-back NBA MVP has been dealing with an illness that forced him to miss time, but Curry was able to make up for lost time in Wednesday’s 125-120 victory over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.

The 11-time All-Star went off for 46 points on 13-of-25 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, five assists, two steals and five triples in 34 minutes of action. It was a vintage performance for the 37-year-old, who led Golden State to its first road victory in seven games.

Cury battled rust in his first game back on Tuesday night. The 11-time All-NBA guard logged 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting as the Warriors suffered a 126-102 blowout loss to the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Golden State was in dire need of a win on Wednesday against the Spurs, and Curry, who admitted before the game that he was still battling the same illness that kept him out for three straight games, made sure that his team would come out on top.

In the process, Curry rewrote the NBA history books after another 40-point performance. Bleacher Report announced the Warriors star’s latest milestone after the Spurs game.

As the post indicates, Curry passed former teammate Kevin Durant for all-time 40-point games. Curry has now scored 40 or more points 73 times in his career. He is ninth all-time, behind Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who is eighth with 77 40-point games.

For context, it’s legendary center Wilt Chamberlain who sits atop the list with 271 40-point games. James Harden (105) and LeBron James (79) are the only other active players in the Top 10.

Curry will have an opportunity to add to his tally in Golden State’s next game. This comes in the form of a rematch against the Spurs on Thursday night. That will be the Warriors’ third contest in their current six-game road trip.
