The Golden State Warriors began the 2025-26 NBA season with expectations that Stephen Curry would once again lead them to a deep playoff run. Curry entered the year continuing his late‑career scoring brilliance, averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.1% from three. He earned his 12th All‑Star selection and was one of the league’s top clutch performers.
However, that momentum was derailed on Jan. 30 against the Detroit Pistons, when Curry developed a lingering right knee issue, commonly referred to as patellofemoral pain syndrome or “runner’s knee” and he has not played since that game.
Without Curry in the lineup, the Warriors have struggled to maintain consistency. Golden State has compiled an 8-15 record in games he has missed, dropping into 10th place in the Western Conference. The offense has lacked its usual rhythm without his scoring and floor spacing, and the team’s hopes of climbing into a higher seed have been challenged by a combination of injuries and uneven play.
Hours before their matchup with the Washington Wizards , new information emerged on Curry’s recovery timeline. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, Curry will be re‑examined next week as he attempts to ramp up again with his ailing knee, extending his prolonged absence to at least 25 straight games.
Golden State's Stephen Curry will be re-examined next week as he attempts to ramp up again with his ailing knee, sources tell me and @anthonyVslater. This extends his prolonged absence to at least 25 straight games after he was unable to scrimmage this week as previously hoped.

Slater added that Curry has not given up hope on returning late in the regular season, though he was officially ruled out through Sunday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Curry is still seeking the “green light” from Warriors medical staff, including team performance director Rick Celebrini, to scrimmage in coming days.
Before the latest setback, the Warriors had hoped Curry might return sooner, but he was unable to participate in a scrimmage as previously hoped, prompting the cautious approach.
