The Golden State Warriors made a push for the playoffs last season when they traded for Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline.

The Warriors went 23-8 to end the regular season after acquiring Butler, but still ended up in the play-in tournament.

The Warriors went on to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies and entered the postseason field as the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.

Golden State upset the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets in the first round, but then fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round after Stephen Curry sustained a hamstring injury in Game 1 of that series.

Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler want the Golden State Warriors ‘to get a deal done’ with Jonathan Kuminga

During Curry’s absence in the second round, Jonathan Kuminga stepped up for the Warriors averaging 20.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in the five-game series. He even had a 30-point outing in Game 3, but it wasn’t enough.

Now, Kuminga finds himself in contract negotiations with the Warriors as his future with the team remains in question.

However, according to ClutchPoints‘ Brett Siegel, the Warriors want Kuminga back on the roster.

“Over the last few weeks, the Warriors veterans — Curry, Green, and Butler — have all communicated with the Dubs’ brain trust to get a deal done, sources said.

“All three stars want Kuminga back on the roster, as his athleticism, durability, and production can’t be replicated. If lost, Kuminga’s void will be felt throughout the 82-game season.”

Jonathan Kuminga has huge upside that the Golden State Warriors can’t ignore

Kuminga’s lack of playing time under head coach Steve Kerr continues to be an issue.

Kuminga hasn’t been given a clear role, and as a result, his numbers have fluctuated.

However, the 22-year-old has shown that he can be someone who Golden State can count on.

He had that huge 30-piece against the Timberwolves in the playoffs, and he scored a career-high 34 points in back-to-back games last season against the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns.

Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 47 games for the Warriors, playing in 24.3 minutes per contest. If he had been given more minutes, his numbers likely would have been even better.

If the Warriors part ways with Kuminga, they might end up regretting it in the future.
