The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to have a bounce back season.
The Philadelphia 76ers were riddled with injuries last season and quickly dropped in the Eastern Conference standings.
They eventually decided to pack it in after the All-Star break and tanked in favor of getting a high draft pick.
The 76ers landed the No. 3 pick and selected VJ Edgecombe as he will be added to a core of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George.
Maxey also had a down year last season. He made the All-Star team in 2024 and he’s looking to get back to that level of play.
Maxey has shown that he can be a star and someone who the 76ers can trust in late game scenarios.
Matt Barnes went as far as saying Maxey is the star on the 76ers.
“We know the star on that team is Maxey, the new up-and-coming star.”
Stephen Jackson agreed and said that Maxey will be the reason why the 76ers make a trade.
“He’s going to be the reason they trade somebody. Watch. Watch. They’re going to give him the keys.”
The 76ers need Embiid to stay healthy if they are going to have a successful year.
The former NBA MVP has been riddled with injuries the last two seasons, playing in just 58 games over that span.
Jackson talked about the importance of Embiid staying healthy and implied if he can’t stay on the court, it might be time for Philadelphia to move on.
“I think this is a big year for this team from a standpoint of, if Embiid can’t stay on the court, how much longer do you let him, and I say with all due respect, hold back the franchise?
“He’s making a ton of money. PG’s out there, too. He’s coming off two knee surgeries. But Embiid has been there for a long time, and we’ve trusted the process.
“With the playoffs, he’s played nearly 500 games in his career, and he’s missed over 400. That’s a coin flip if you’re going to have your best player every night. That’s tough at any level, but particularly at the highest level, to win with.”
The 76ers have a lot of young talent like Maxey, Edgecombe and Jared McCain which will put even more pressure on the veterans George and Embiid.
