When Stephen Curry was sitting out for almost two months, the Warriors’ fans desperately pleaded for him to come back. Thankfully, much to everyone’s relief, the 4-time NBA champion made a steady return to the side recently. Quite expectedly, the last thing anybody would have wanted is to see Curry suffering from yet another injury.
But that is exactly what happened. After resting him against the Los Angeles Lakers, the 38-year-old suited up against the Sacramento Kings. Following a heavy clash with Devin Carter, Curry limped toward the sidelines. As the Warriors’ fans’ hearts raced, head coach Steve Kerr had some good news coming in.
“That’s why I took the time out and I was worried it was his knee. I just saw him limping and came over and he said, no, I’m fine. It’s just the ankle, I don’t know, he just tweaked it or something, but he’s fine,” Kerr said, speaking to the media.
Steve Kerr said Steph Curry’s ankle tweak isn’t a concern. He plans to play Curry on Sunday in Los Angeles because Curry wants to generate a better rhythm. Kerr also dropped the news that he plans to have Curry in the rotation for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He stressed how the 2022 NBA Finals MVP wanted to play and get his rhythm and conditioning on point before the all-important play-in clash.
Well, the team surely needs Curry’s service. As their play-off berth looks in jeopardy, the 12-time NBA All-Star got real on his expectations for his post-injury comeback.
Curry initially thought that he would be out for 10 days. But it soon turned into a 2-month-long absence. Now, as he is looking to guide his team to a playoff run, the 38-year-old is trying to keep things simple. Speaking at an earlier press conference, the Warriors’ legend said he wanted to keep playing and hoped things would ultimately pay off.
“I mean, I love playing basketball. It’s what I get paid to do. So if I’m healthy to play, it’s safe to go out there and test it in live action. All the work that I’ve put in will hopefully pay off,” said Curry.
