Steve Kerr Delivers Jimmy Butler Statement After Stephen Curry Injury

Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring strain in Game 1 of the Golden State Warriors' second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. That fact ruined an otherwise great start to the matchup for Steve Kerr's group.

The Warriors took down the Timberwolves in an impressive 99-88 victory without their all-time great point guard. Jimmy Butler was tasked with an expectedly heightened role in Curry's absence.

Butler was well-supported by players like Draymond Green and Buddy Hield in the victory. However, the responsibility of leading the team, offensively at least, squarely falls on the former Miami Heat star from here.

Kerr highlights importance of Butler

Butler's arrival via trade this season provided the Warriors with a much-needed insurance policy for moments like this. Kerr was certainly happy to have the six-time All-Star in the Game 1 scenario that unfolded.

"It's massive. The game settles down. You could see the last six, eight minutes, all we were doing was high ball screens for Jimmy. We were even willing to take shot clock violations at that point.

It was all about protecting the ball. Jimmy is, I think, as good as anybody, any star in the league at reading the game, understanding how to control the tempo, control the time and score, understanding everything that's happening.

Putting the ball in his hands in a situation like that is pretty comforting. Jimmy also had six offensive rebounds, two steals in the first half."

Green was another key member of the Warriors organization who thought Butler will be crucial for the team moving forward. The four-time champion described his teammate as 'capable of carrying a team.'

Draymond urged there was no reason to panic, making it sound like he agrees with the sentiment of the calm and confidence that comes with having Butler leading the way.
