The Golden State Warriors are just now settling in after a really interesting offseason. Once free agency began earlier this summer, teams all around the league got to work making moves, from re-signings to new additions. However, the Warriors held put, with the Jonathan Kuminga contract negotiations holding them up from doing anything.
With that out of the way, and their roster filled out with notable veterans Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and Seth Curry, the Dubs can focus on the preseason games they have ahead of them.

The first of those games is against the Los Angeles Lakers, a fellow Pacific Division rival. They'll match up on Sunday, October 5.
With a team like the Warriors, whose main core is mostly veteran players -- Stephen Curry at 37, Jimmy Butler at 36, and Draymond Green at 35 -- the team will have to be cautious with their minutes.
With that in mind, head coach Steve Kerr spoke about how they'll tackle Curry's minutes along with Green's and Butler's in the preseason opener against the Lakers.
Speaking after practice, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he expects Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler to play 15 minutes apiece Sunday in the preseason opener. “Pending how they’re feeling,” he said, adding Butler at practice Thursday had a minor ankle tweak.

The big three veterans will play about 15 minutes each, according to Kerr. He also noted that it will be how they are feeling prior to the game. In Butler's case specifically, he had an ankle tweak during a practice, which could alter his minutes or availability.
This is typical for the preseason, as it gives the star players a chance to play and warm up, but they don't go out and play 35 to 40 minutes a night. The emphasis for Golden State will be more about working with the new team and feeling out their new and young pieces.
Jimmy Butler(ankle) is questionable for Warriors’ first preseason game on Sunday after tweaking his ankle in practice, per Steve Kerr.

The Warriors have a long road ahead of them, and spending 30 minutes a game in the preseason for all their veterans would most likely yield long-term exhaustion. The caution from Kerr and the coaching staff makes sense, especially with the Lakers' decision to rest Luka Doncic for their next two preseason games.
But, with Curry, Green, and Butler leading the way for Golden State, it's a safe bet they have a punter's chance of making the NBA Playoffs.
The preseason matchup between the Lakers and Warriors on October 5th is set to tip off at 8:30 p.m. EST, with the first of the two preseason games between the Western Conference foes happening in San Francisco.
