Amazon Prime Video is continuing to stockpile basketball star power ahead of its debut as an NBA broadcasting partner, reportedly hiring Steve Nash and Stan Van Gundy for its coverage team beginning with the 2025-26 season.

Longtime NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line reports that Nash, a two-time NBA MVP and former head coach, will be a key part of Amazon’s studio and game broadcasts.

Meanwhile, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic writes that Van Gundy, a veteran television analyst and former head coach, will join the platform as a game analyst.

Nash recently stepped into the media spotlight by co-hosting Mind the Game with LeBron James — a cerebral, Xs-and-Os-heavy podcast that’s earned praise from basketball purists.

Van Gundy, a familiar face (and voice) from years with ESPN and TNT, brings decades of coaching and commentary experience, with stints on the sidelines for the Heat, Magic, Pistons, and Pelicans.

With TNT’s NBA rights expiring after this season, Amazon is emerging as a major player in the league’s new media era. It has already inked former All-Stars Blake Griffin and Dirk Nowitzki to studio roles on a show hosted by Taylor Rooks, etting up an on-air reunion between Nowitzki and his longtime Mavericks teammate, Nash.

Play-by-play veteran Ian Eagle will serve as Prime Video’s lead announcer, though Marchand notes it remains unclear whether Van Gundy will join him on the top broadcast team.

Amazon has also reportedly expressed interest in ESPN’s Richard Jefferson, while exploratory talks have taken place with TNT’s Kevin Harlan and Timberwolves broadcaster Michael Grady. Dwyane Wade is also under consideration for a color commentary role, per Marchand.

The NBA’s new broadcast deal — featuring Amazon, NBC, and Disney (ABC/ESPN) — kicks off with the 2025-26 campaign, ushering in a new era of streaming-heavy coverage and fresh voices across multiple platforms.

So yes, Nash is now a studio analyst. Van Gundy’s back on your screen. And Amazon isn’t just dipping its toe in the NBA pool — it’s cannonballing in.
