The Phoenix Suns are doing their best to remain contenders in the Western Conference and have been competitive under new head coach Jordan Ott. The Suns entered Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers with a 12–9 record despite missing guard Jalen Green for much of the year.
Fortunately, Phoenix still has shooting guard Devin Booker, now in his 11th season with the organization. The 29-year-old is working with one of the weakest supporting casts of his tenure, yet it has not stopped him from being an efficient leading scorer.
Booker has averaged 25.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 45.5% from the field, 31.1% from 3-point range and 87.3% from the free-throw line across his first 21 appearances. His ability to carry the offense and create for teammates has kept the Suns afloat, reaffirming his status as one of the league’s best guards.
During Monday’s road game against Los Angeles, Booker got off to a strong start. He scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting in his first 10 minutes of action, while also collecting two rebounds and three assists.
However, Booker did not re-enter the game for another stint in the second quarter, immediately raising concern. He was not seen on the bench and was later reported to have headed back to the locker room.
Just before halftime, the Suns provided an update on his status amid the uncertainty, announcing that he had suffered a right groin injury and would not return.
“Devin Booker will not return for the Suns tonight due to a right groin injury, per Suns,” reported Kellan Olson of Arizona Sports.

Booker’s importance to the Suns cannot be overstated. Since being drafted 13th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, he has grown into the face of the franchise, collecting four All-Star selections and two All-NBA honors along the way.
His consistency and leadership earned him a two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension with Phoenix in July, a clear signal of the team’s commitment to building around him.
Beyond the numbers, Booker represents continuity for a roster that has seen significant turnover. He is one of the few remaining pieces from the Suns’ run to the NBA Finals in 2021. His status will be closely monitored in the coming days as Phoenix awaits further clarity on the severity of his injury.
