Suns collapse in second half, dominated 121-113 by Timberwolves

PHOENIX — Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards dueled, scoring 33 points each as the Phoenix Suns lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-113 after a second-half collapse.

Durant led Phoenix with 33 points (13-19 FG), seven assists and two rebounds. Devin Booker followed with 28 points and eight assists. The Suns were outscored 66-54 in the second half, plagued by costly turnovers and apprehended offensive sets.

Edwards surged in the second half, scoring 19 of his 33 points to close the game over the Suns. Timberwolves sixth-man Nickeil Alexander-Walker exploded off the bench with 23 points (5-10 3PT FG) and was a game-high +14 on the night.

Phoenix (24-22) finishes its three-game homestand 2-1 and is going on the road for a back-to-back against the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trailblazers on  Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Edwards pushes Wolves over Suns in 3rd quarter

Anthony Edwards scored nine of his 23 points in the third quarter to lift the Timberwolves over the Suns, 81-77.

The Suns scored just 18 points in the quarter and had seven costly turnovers added to it. Kevin Durant led Phoenix with 22 points and six assists including an emphatic chase down block in transition to halt momentum. Devin Booker was right behind him with 20 points (8-13 FG) and five assists.

Booker, Suns withstand Timberwolves 2nd quarter surge

Devin Booker doubled his first-quarter production (nine points) to take 18 points into halftime, leading the Suns over the Timberwolves, 59-55.

Minnesota scored 33 points in the second quarter to cut into the lead behind 11 points from Julius Randle and 10 from Nickeil Alexander-Walker in the quarter. Anthony Edwards had 14 points (5-10 FG) in the first half.

Devin Booker led all scorers with 18 points (7-10 FG), which included a miraculous play where he saved the basketball from going out of bounds by throwing it 50 feet in the air directly to Grayson Allen, then regained his position on the court to receive the ball from Kevin Durant and score a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar-esque sky hook to finish the play.

Durant, Booker kickstart Suns in 1st quarter

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker combined for 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting to lead the Suns over the Timberwolves after one quarter, 29-22.

The star duo was a catalyst in yet another strong first quarter start against a tough Western Conference foe. Durant had nine points (4-5 FG) and four assists. Booker also had nine points (4-5 FG) and was a game-high +9 in the quarter.

Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with six points (3-7 FG), followed by Jaden McDaniels with five points. Phoenix made it difficult for Edwards and Julius Randle to get their early offense going, which led to Minnesota’s 22-point first quarter.

Injury report

Suns star forward Kevin Durant (left thumb injury) and rookie wing Ryan Dunn (left ankle sprain) were both questionable enter the game. Dunn was made available and Durant went through his pregame routine where he was later listed as good to go. Naz Reid (illness) and Donte DiVincenzo (left great toe sprain) were out for Minnesota.
