The saga between the Phoenix Suns and their star Kevin Durant is the storyline entering the NBA offseason as everyone around the league has their eyes on the situation.
Of course, the Suns are expected to move on from Durant this offseason after they failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season as they try to rebuild their roster around Devin Booker.
Durant has been linked to many teams thus far but ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that his preferred landing spots are the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat or Houston Rockets.

Charania’s report was then narrowed down by The Athletic on Monday night as they reported that Durant’s preferred trade destination is the Spurs.

With Durant now narrowing his options down to at least three teams, though the Spurs are now the frontrunners, he may be forcing the Suns’ hands to deal him to one of the teams listed.
Because of this, Phoenix is now facing a major problem in a potential Durant trade as Suns insider Duane Rankin reported on Tuesday that Phoenix has “no leverage” in a Durant trade and they may have to lower their asking price.
“The Phoenix Suns may be placing too high a value on Kevin Durant and might have to reduce their asking price in negotiating a trade, league sources inform The Arizona Republic,” Rankin wrote. “The Suns have ‘no leverage’ in part because of Durant's age and because he wants to start fresh elsewhere, league sources say. The idea of Durant returning to a team that entertained deals for him before the 2025 trade deadline isn’t a pleasant one.”

This is a massive report by Rankin and one that many saw coming as there have been reports stating that the Suns have not been intrigued by any trade offers they have received thus far.
Because of this, Phoenix may be forced to lower their asking price to pull off a trade, which would be a massive blow as they begin a rebuild.
