Kevin Durant reportedly has a list of three teams for which he wants to play next. The Phoenix Suns may or may not grant him his wish.
Per Marc Stein of the Stein Line, Durant’s wish list consists of the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat. He also had the New York Knicks on that list, but given that the Knicks took themselves out of the running … well, and then there were three.
“Sources say the Suns, meanwhile, are not promising to send Durant to any of those destinations,” Stein wrote. “They are open to a mutually beneficial trade to the Spurs, Rockets or Heat if they end up liking the return, but it appears that Phoenix is prepared to make the best deal it can after surrendering a staggering haul to acquire Durant from Brooklyn in the first place in February 2023.”
Durant turns 37 in September. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
A top 75 player of all time, Durant has one year left on his contract. He has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.
“The Suns know they won’t be able to come anywhere close to matching (gulp) what they gave up to get Durant but appear heartened by the level of interest from teams that sound willing to trade for Durant with no assurance that he’ll commit to anything beyond the final season remaining on his contract at $54.7 million,” Stein wrote.
Durant won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder and back-to-back rings and Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018. He is also a four-time scoring champion.
The eighth-leading scorer in NBA history, Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
