Suns package for Jonathan Kuminga revealed and rejected by Warriors

The deteriorating relationship between the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga has been well documented, almost as obvious as the Phoenix Suns interest in the 23-year-old. The franchise is one of two teams interested in Kuminga, the other being the Sacramento Kings. Golden State has tried hard to keep their former lottery pick but have released their asking price for Kuminga.

General manager Brian Gregory has reportedly sent a “concrete” offer to the Warriors, which has now been revealed by NBA Insider Marc J. Spears. The package included two roles players and a bundle of picks, which Golden State rejected.

Spears on Suns offer for Kuminga:

“And then the Suns, I heard, they’re like, offering Royce [O’Neale] and four seconds and Nick Richards. That’s just not pretty enough.”

The Warriors are seeking a first-round pick, a veteran role player and a young player for Kuminga. The Suns are only meeting one of those requirements, offering two solid role players to pair with superstar Stephen Curry. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Golden State’s latest push for Kuminga had, again, fallen shorts, which has definitely hurt their asking price.

Gregory will likely stay strong on only offering multiple second-round picks for Kuminga, as the franchise is already strapped for first-round picks. Phoenix is noticeably a younger team compared to last year, after trading Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. The Suns trading away one of their young assets for Kuminga in a deal would seem counterintuitive of what its striving for next season.

Kuminga is determined to secure a long-term deal and not signing the qualifying offer for the 2025-2026 season, which puts all the pressure on the Warriors to make a decision. Golden State could either meet Kuminga’s demands or lower their asking price to the level of Phoenix and get something in return for their young wing.
