The Milwaukee Bucks Hopeful Doc Rivers Presence Keeps Giannis Antetoukounmpo In Town| 5/26

The Milwaukee Bucks have had a tumultuous last few seasons, to say the least. After a horrifying first-round collapse against the Miami Heat in 2023, followed by back-to-back first-round exits to the Indiana Pacers, things look a little dicey in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ Frustrating Position Expanded

The Bucks are facing turmoil that any team dreads entering. After obtaining Damian Lillard, the Bucks have made very little progress in solidifying themselves as being a part of the contenders in the league. Trading Giannis Antetoukounmpo’s long-time teammate and best friend, Khris Middleton, to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, which was an awful disappointment in the playoffs, with averages of 5.8ppg on 34.3% shooting from the field.

It is understandable for Giannis to become fed up with an organization that can’t deliver a contending team. Rumors of offseason trades surrounding Antetokounmpo have been sprouting, and it’s looking more and more likely that the Milwaukee Bucks franchise star may be on his way out. Failure after failure becomes crippling to a star player who only has winning on his mind. So what could influence his decision to stay with a team that is falling apart around him?

Milwaukee Bucks Believe Doc Rivers Will Help Antetoukounmpo To Stay

Enter Doc Rivers. A longtime NBA head coach of multiple teams, including the Boston Celtics team that won the NBA Championship in 2008. Other than that championship, not much to speak of. Rivers has established himself as a great coach and always seems to bolster a competitive team, but what has been happening in Milwaukee during his tenure has not been so great. However, the Bucks remain optimistic that this is the coach Antetokounmpo wants to play for.

NBA insider Marc Stein, reports that Rivers and Antetokounmpo have built a very strong work relationship and have built trust with one another. “The Bucks are also hoping that the presence of Doc Rivers as coach can provide some sort of boost. Antetokounmpo and Rivers are believed to have a strong working relationship…,” wrote Stein.

In 120 games coached for the Milwaukee Bucks, Rivers has an underwhelming 66-54 record and while Rivers may be a future Hall of Famer, Antetoukounmpo has shown his interests are in results.

Final Thoughts

It’s unknown what Antetokounmpo’s intentions are this offseason. Multiple insiders have speculated that the franchise star is already on his way out the door, while Antetoukounmpo says he has no interest in leaving the organization. We’ve heard that one before and see a trade happen months later. With Antetoukounmpo entering his 13th season and one NBA Championship, we may be witnessing a league-altering change very soon.
