The most unlikely 50-point games in NBA history

If an NBA player ends a game with 30 points, that's generally a great night. 40 points is fantastic, and 50 points is an event. That's especially true when that type of scoring outburst comes from an unexpected source. These are the most surprising 50-point games in the league's history.

1 of 21

Bam Adebayo

Bam Adebayo
Rhona Wise/Imagn

As of 2026, Bam has only averaged 20 points per game twice, and for his career, he has just two games of 40 or more points. One of them, though, was an unbelievable offensive outburst: In a late-season game against the Wizards in 2026, Adebayo made 20 field goals, 7 threes, and 36 free throws en route to 83 points, the most in a game ever aside from Wilt Chamberlain's famous 100-point night. Considering Adebayo has never been a superlative offensive force, this performance truly came out of absolutely nowhere.

Jamal Crawford

It might be surprising to see Crawford on this list, as his career was full of offensive explosions. He actually had four 50-point games and is one of only a few dozen players in NBA history to do so. The least expected of them all, though, was in 2019, when, fresh off his 39th birthday, he became the oldest player to have a 50-point game, with a stunning 51 in the final game of the season.

Corey Brewer

Corey Brewer

Brewer was an OK supporting scorer in his day, but he had more seasons averaging fewer than 10 points per game than seasons in which he topped that mark. He stuck around the league for 13 years primarily because of his defense and energy, not his offense. In fact, he scored more than 30 points in an NBA game only once, when he dropped 51 out of nowhere for Minnesota in 2014.

Tony Delk

Like Brewer, Delk wasn't known for prolific offensive output and only scored over 30 points once. Delk dropped 53 in a 2001 game, and even that wasn't enough, as his Suns still lost in overtime. It was a really efficient 50-piece, though, as he did it on 20-for-27 shooting (0-for-1 from three).

Malachi Flynn

Flynn's NBA career was pretty typical: A late-first-round draft pick, he hung around the NBA for just a few seasons before playing internationally. Before he headed overseas, though, he did turn in one monster night, putting up a cool 50 points for Detroit in a 2024 loss.

Saddiq Bey

Bey has long been a reliable three-point shooter, with his career long-range shooting percentage hovering around 35%. On his best shooting night to date, he went 10 for 14 in a 2022 game. Between that and buckets from elsewhere on the court, he ended up with 51 points.

Kevin Porter Jr.
Kevin Sousa/Imagn

Porter's career has so far been defined by off-the-court troubles. During his sophomore season in 2021, he was fined by the league for violating its health and safety protocols. The very next day, though, he went ahead and dropped 50 points, pairing all that scoring with 11 assists.

Terrence Ross

On offense, Ross was a highlight machine thanks to high-flying dunks. His scoring averages were relatively modest, though, finishing his career at 11 points per game. He went off one night in 2014 for Toronto, though, dropping 51 points with a career-high 10 made threes.

Andre Miller

Miller is quietly one of the most productive passers ever: He's one of only 13 players in NBA history with over 8,000 career assists. Every now and then, though, he could really put the ball in the hole. That was especially true in a 2010 game against Portland, when he went off, shooting 22-for-31 and netting 52 points.

Dana Barros

Aside from one season where Barros scored 20 points a game out of nowhere, his offensive output was closer to single digits or the low teens. In fact, he only had eight 30-point games in his career. His 50-point game came in 1995, on phenomenal 21-for-26 shooting, accompanied by eight assists.

Nick Anderson

Anderson has the distinct honor of being the first draft pick in the history of the Orlando Magic franchise. That worked out pretty well, as he averaged 15 points per game over 10 seasons with the team. He came through when it counted one night in 1993, scoring 50 points in a game his Magic won by just three points.

Caris LeVert

LeVert had a short, three-season peak where he averaged 18 points a game. During that run, he had one memorable night for Brooklyn against Boston. Despite shooting just 12-for-18 from the free-throw line, he still put up 51 points in an overtime win.

T.J. Warren

Before injuries cut his career short, Warren was a solid supporting player with scoring averages routinely in the teens. He rarely scored much more than that on a night-by-night basis, though, with only a handful of career games in the 30s. Then, he caught fire one night in 2020, ending up with 53 points on 20-for-29 shooting.

Clifford Robinson
William Archie/Imagn

Robinson was best known for his defensive abilities, making a couple of All-Defense teams during his 18-year career. But there was that nine-season run where he scored 18 points per contest. Towards the end of it, in 2000, he went off for an even 50 in a win.

Mo Williams

As LeBron's running mate in the 2000s, Williams was good for the occasional big scoring night. His biggest one of all, though, actually came after that peak, during a short stint playing for Minnesota towards the end of his career. He only spent 41 games with the team, but for one night, he looked like a franchise player as he hung 52.

Eric Gordon

There was a stretch early in Gordon's career where it looked like he, the seventh pick in the 2008 draft, might be developing into a star. That never came to pass, but he has routinely been a big scoring threat over nearly two decades in the league. He missed a ton of games in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but one night in 2020, he finished with 50, thanks in part to 16 free throws.

Brandon Jennings

Brandon Jennings
Jeff Hanisch/Imagn

Jennings, incredibly, got his first and only 50-point night in just his seventh NBA game. He had 55, to be exact, taking 34 shots and making 21 of them. It was so early in the season that one night raised his season scoring average by five points, from 20.7 to 25.6 PPG.

Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose
Jesse Johnson/Imagn

It's not surprising that Rose, once the league's MVP, got a 50-ball, but what was shocking was when it happened. Long after injuries ended his brief run as a star player, Rose came through with 50 points for the Timberwolves. The closest he had come to that previously was a couple of 42-point evenings with the Bulls.

Cedric Ceballos

From the 1994 season and into 1995, Ceballos surprised with his emergence as a star-like player. He earned one All-Star nod in the 1995 season in his first year with the Lakers, and he had the biggest game of his career that year. He had a couple of 40-point nights before this, but his 50-point explosion came out of nowhere.

Fred VanVleet

Fred VanVleet
Sergio Estrada/Imagn

VanVleet started from the very bottom in the NBA, going undrafted and not having much of an impact in his first year after the Raptors took a chance on him. He gradually became one of the league's best guards, though, and he really looked like it one game in 2021. On 17-for-23 shooting, he ended the night with 54.

Lou Williams

Lou Williams
Tommy Gilligan/Imagn

Lou-Will could score with the best of them, but generally, he wasn't asked to do so in the supporting roles he played. Here and there, though, he was "the guy." In 2018, in the latter half of his career, he exploded for 50, adding seven assists, too.
