The Thunder's Superstar Continues to Evolve as a Playmaker

As the superstar player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to be a massive contributor for the team. He already has a tremendous track record, having won a championship in the 2024-25 season, which also included winning the regular season and Finals MVP awards.

He has been a magnificent offensive player, mainly with his scoring. However, he has also become a point guard over the years. He was once a shooting guard alongside Chris Paul in his first season with the Thunder, but he has continued to develop.

Over the past few years, Gilgeous-Alexander has grown into the best point guard in the league. Mostly, he has been a scorer, but he has kept improving in his playmaking.

He is a dangerous player in the pick-and-roll because he can be the playmaker, but he can also use it for his scoring arsenal. With 5.5 assists per game in his OKC career, head coach Mark Daigneault is pleased with his player, but he is improving with his passing.

Daigneault is Ecstatic About His Star's Development

Even though the Thunder already won the championship in the 2025 postseason, they want to be a dynasty. They have the hunger to win more championships, which is a testament to their approach.

Gilgeous-Alexander is a fantastic scorer, which has propelled him to superstardom. The same can be said about his other teammates, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, who are also stars.

Since the Thunder have immense talent on their roster, it would be good to have a more well-rounded team. SGA being more of a playmaker strengthens the rest of the team and opens up more scoring opportunities for him since the defense must focus on other areas of the court as well.

"In terms of his play, he looks about the same. The only thing that's really shown up a little differently is he's really starting to manipulate the game as a playmaker," Daigneault said about SGA's playmaking evolution.

"The scoring has been loud, but some of the passes he's made and the reads he's made against the different coverages he's seen in these first few games have been really good."

Gilgeous-Alexander Still Has More Room to Grow

Even if he is one of the best players in the league, Gilgeous-Alexander has added more dimensions to his game. Most people know him as a pure scorer who can generate a shot out of nothing. That is still the biggest part of his game because that's his role, but he is evolving even more.

The rest of Gilgeous-Alexander's skill set, with his defense, playmaking, and leadership, has all improved. That should be a good sign for the team because their star player is making positive strides. If they can keep doing that, the future is bright not only for SGA but for the rest of the team.

Daigneault is glad that his superstar is doing well because he is working hard to become the best player on the court. If he keeps doing that, there is no stopping the Thunder from winning another one and establishing the dynasty they want to create.
