This Collapse Could Haunt Orlando for Years

What should have been a celebration inside Orlando turned into a nightmare that will haunt this franchise if things go south in Game 7. The Orlando Magic had the series in their hands, their crowd behind them, and a 24-point lead that felt insurmountable. Instead, they delivered one of the most shocking second-half meltdowns the NBA playoffs have ever seen, allowing the Detroit Pistons to storm back and steal a 93–79 win to force a Game 7.

Orlando looked dominant early. After building a double-digit lead in the first half, they completely buried Detroit in the second quarter, outscoring them 35–12 and taking a 22-point lead into halftime. Everything pointed toward a closeout win. The ball was moving, shots were falling, and Detroit looked overwhelmed by the moment.

Then everything flipped.

The second half wasn’t just bad—it was historically awful. Orlando went ice cold, missing 23 straight shots at one point and managing just 19 total points across the final two quarters. Their offense completely collapsed, turning into forced isolations, rushed jumpers, and empty possessions. By the fourth quarter, the pressure was visible. Every miss tightened the game, and every possession felt heavier than the last.

Meanwhile, Detroit smelled blood.

Led by Cade Cunningham, the Pistons didn’t just chip away—they overwhelmed Orlando. Cunningham took over late, pouring in 19 fourth-quarter points and finishing with 32 points and 10 rebounds. He played with the confidence of a superstar who knew the game—and the series—was slipping toward him. Detroit’s defense locked in as well, turning Orlando’s struggles into transition opportunities and easy baskets.

What started as a 24-point deficit turned into a 55–19 second-half domination by Detroit. The Magic went from controlling the game to completely losing composure, and by the final minutes, the result felt inevitable.

Now, everything comes down to Game 7.

Instead of closing the series at home, Orlando now has to travel to Detroit with all the pressure on their shoulders. Blowing one closeout game is tough. Blowing two—especially like this—is how doubt creeps in. For a young team, this is the ultimate test of maturity.

For Detroit, the momentum couldn’t be stronger. They’ve flipped the series emotionally and mentally, and they now head home with belief, confidence, and a superstar playing his best basketball at the perfect time.

Game 7 isn’t just about advancing anymore. For Orlando, it’s about avoiding becoming a cautionary tale. For Detroit, it’s a chance to complete one of the most unbelievable comebacks in recent playoff memory.

One team will move on. The other might be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
