The Chicago Bulls are getting prepared for one of the most important offseasons in recent memory. They have four picks in the 2026 NBA Draft and a significant amount of cap space to use in free agency. Chicago has some holes in its roster that they need to address before the 2026-27 season begins. While there are needs for the Bulls, there is one that is significant enough that it seems to be priority No. 1. Let’s take a closer look at what it is for Chicago and how they can address it during the NBA Draft.
Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz wrote an article highlighting what the biggest needs for all 32 teams are heading into the 2026 NBA Draft. For the Bulls, he highlighted the need to get a center. Below is his explanation of why he believes this to be the biggest need.
“The Chicago Bulls have pivoted to a rebuild and should probably take the best player available with all four of their draft selections. The biggest position of need? Center. Jalen Smith is the only center-ish player on the roster for the next season, although he logged 32 percent of his minutes at power forward last year.
“The bad news for Chicago is that this isn’t a center-rich draft. Caleb Wilson is the overwhelming favorite to go to the Bulls at No. 4, although his 6’9″, 210-pound fram screams forward more than it does small-ball five. The Bulls should hope that Michigan’s Aday Mara falls to them at 15, as his 7’3″ frame and 7’6″ wingspan could anchor their defense for years to come.”
The Bulls have some decisions they could make in terms of the center position. They are projected to select Caleb Wilson, and he has the potential to play some center in the NBA. If they are not able to draft Mara, the next-best option might be Washington’s Hannes Steinbach. Of course, they can always address the center position in free agency rather than the NBA Draft. Jalen Duren is a restricted free agent this offseason, so they can place an offer and hope the Detroit Pistons do not match. In terms of young talent, they can re-sign Nick Richards or go after a player like Mitchell Robinson or Jaxson Hayes in unrestricted free agency. It will be intriguing to see how the Bulls plan on addressing the center spot for their roster.
