Three under-the-radar NBA Draft prospects with high potentials

The 2024 NBA Draft is on June 26 and 27, and while many analysts believe this is a relatively weak class, there are sure to be some hidden gems who'll eventually become productive players.

With that in mind, here are three prospects projected to land outside the lottery who have more upside than they may initially appear to possess.

Ryan Dunn | Virginia

Height: 6-foot-8 Weight: 214 pounds

Dunn still has a long way to go on the offensive end, as he averaged 8.1 points per game this past season while shooting 20% from three-point range and 53.3% from the free-throw line. However, the fringe first-round pick boasts NBA-ready defense and might be the best perimeter defender in the entire draft, which should help him get playing time as a rookie.

Last season, Dunn averaged 1.3 steals and an ACC-leading 2.3 blocks per game as the anchor of Virginia's elite defensive lineup. As Shot Quality's Ersin Demir pointed out, Dunn's production was rare, given that he was just one of two underclassmen listed at 6-foot-8 or shorter to post at least a 10% block rate and 2.5% steal rate.

Although Dunn skipped the scrimmage portion of last month’s NBA Draft Combine, he still impressed in Chicago, registering a 7-foot-1 wingspan and a 32-inch vertical jump, the third-highest among forwards. Even if he doesn't make the necessary strides as a shooter, Dunn has the tools to be a valuable defensive-minded role player in today's NBA.

Bobi Klintman. Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Bobi Klintman | Cairns Taipans (NBL)

Height: 6-foot-10 Weight: 212 pounds

One of the most intriguing prospects in the entire draft, the Swedish forward played one season at Wake Forest (2022-23) before signing with the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League last June.

Klintman, the No. 24 prospect in ESPN's rankings, didn't make much of an impact at Wake Forest, averaging just 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds across 33 games, but he significantly improved in Australia.

In 21.3 minutes per game this past season, Klintman averaged 9.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks while shooting 44.3% from the field and 35.7% from beyond the arc. While those stats don't necessarily jump off the page, Klintman's athleticism, along with his abilities to finish at the rim space and the floor, should translate well to the NBA.

Jonathan Givony of ESPN recently described Klintman as "somewhat of a jack of all trades, master of none," but if he grows into his massive frame and becomes a more consistent shooter, he has the upside teams covet.

As a projected late first-rounder, Klintman will likely be a fascinating project for a current title contender to develop.

Isaiah Crawford | Louisiana Tech

Height: 6-foot-6 Weight: 220 pounds

The former Bulldog wasn't invited to the NBA Draft Combine, but he still decided to forgo his remaining year of eligibility to go pro. This likely means that Crawford has received enough feedback on his draft stock that he will be either a second-round pick or sign with a team as an undrafted free agent.

The 22-year-old averaged 16.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 48.5% from the floor and 41.4% from beyond the arc, earning Conference USA Player of the Year honors in the process. Additionally, Crawford became the third player in Conference USA history to record at least 50 blocks and 60 steals in a single season.

There’s no denying he’s a project in need of extensive work, but considering his solid frame and two-way capabilities, Crawford is worth taking a flier on for any team drafting in the second round.
