Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points, and drilled a crucial 3-pointer with 3:34 remaining, as the Oklahoma City Thunder pulled away late to beat the Golden State Warriors 124–112 on Tuesday night. Jalen Williams added 22 points and six assists, and Chet Holmgren delivered 21 points and eight rebounds—including a go-ahead 3 from the top of the arc with 6:02 left, for the defending champions.
Brandin Podziemski led Golden State with 17 points, while Seth Curry scored 14 in his season debut. Stephen Curry missed his second straight game with a bruised left quadriceps and muscle strain suffered last week against Houston.
Pat Spencer kept the Warriors close, scoring 17 points, matching his career high, and adding six assists. His putback with 2:26 left in the third pulled Golden State within 81–79, and he buried a 3 on the next trip to make it a one-point game. Podziemski’s buzzer-beating triple trimmed the Thunder lead to 91–88 heading into the fourth.
Golden State played the second half without Jimmy Butler, who exited with a sore left knee. Butler had been questionable with a bruised left glute from Saturday’s win over New Orleans and appeared to tweak his knee after losing his shoe on a cut to the basket in the second quarter.
Gilgeous-Alexander, averaging 32.5 points coming in, scored nine in the final 1:16 of the second quarter to send Oklahoma City into halftime up 63–44. The Thunder, now 21–1, handed the Warriors only their third home loss of the season.
Seth Curry received a warm ovation when he checked in late in the first quarter, returning to Golden State one day after re-signing with the franchise. He knocked down his first bucket, a midrange jumper, with 8:24 left in the second.
Gary Payton II scored 13 points with five rebounds and five assists for the Warriors, while Draymond Green and Buddy Hield each added 13.
