Thunder To Re-Sign Kenrich Williams

After declining his team option earlier in the week, the Thunder have reached an agreement to bring back veteran forward Kenrich Williams, reports NBA insider Chris Haynes ( Twitter link).

Williams’ team option for 2026/27 would have paid him roughly $7.2MM. His new one-year contract with Oklahoma City will be worth $5MM, sources tell Haynes, creating some modest cap savings for the team.

Williams has become an unlikely franchise mainstay and culture-setter for the Thunder after initially looking like a throw-in in the 2020 trade that sent Steven Adams from OKC to New Orleans. While Josh Gray and Zylan Cheatham, the other two players signed-and-traded to the Thunder in that deal alongside Williams, were waived shortly thereafter, the man affectionately known in OKC as “Kenny Hustle” has been with the team ever since and has become a respected voice in the locker room.

Williams has seen his playing time reduced in recent years as the Thunder have added more talent and depth to their roster, but he was still part of the rotation most nights for the championship team in 2024/25 and for this year’s squad, which racked up 64 wins. In ’25/26, the 6’7″ combo forward averaged 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 15.3 minutes per game over the course of 56 outings (two starts).

The Thunder had one opening on their projected 15-man roster before agreeing to re-sign Williams, so he seems likely to fill that slot. However, committing $5MM to him will push the team’s salary further into luxury-tax and second-apron territory.

While it’s possible Oklahoma City’s front office still has transactions to come that will reduce its projected tax penalty and get the club below the second apron, this move may also signal the organization’s willingness to operate in that range with a roster it believes is capable of winning another championship.
