The Minnesota Timberwolves have opened the 2025–26 season with a 4–3 record. After making back-to-back trips to the Western Conference Finals, shooting guard Anthony Edwards is looking to take Minnesota over the hump and make his first appearance on basketball’s biggest stage.

Edwards got off to a strong start this year over his first three appearances, averaging 25.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 51.9% from the field and 47.4% from three-point range. However, his momentum came to a halt on Oct. 26 during a game against the Indiana Pacers. Edwards suffered a right hamstring strain which forced him out of the contest after just three minutes played.

Edwards was initially expected to miss two weeks with a right hamstring strain. However, ahead of Wednesday’s game against the New York Knicks, his status has changed just nine days after suffering the setback. Minnesota submitted its official injury report to the NBA on X, revealing that Edwards has been upgraded to questionable, giving him a chance to return earlier than expected and indicating he is trending in the right direction.

“Minnesota @Timberwolves Status Report in advance of tomorrow night’s game at New York: AVAILABLE Dillingham – Face Mask, DiVincenzo – Face Mask, QUESTIONABLE: Edwards – Right Hamstring Strain, OUT: Freeman – Two-Way, Zikarsky – Two-Way,” the Timberwolves posted.

This is a significant development for Minnesota, as Edwards could rejoin the lineup for a crucial matchup against the Knicks, one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Edwards has continued to develop into a bona fide superstar, now in his sixth NBA season. Since being selected first overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, he has steadily refined his game year after year. One of the most noticeable improvements has been his three-point shooting, which has become a reliable weapon in his offensive arsenal.

Edwards has also sharpened his ability to attack the rim, using his strength and explosiveness to finish through contact or collapse defenses. That downhill pressure consistently opens up clean looks for his teammates, making him a more complete playmaker.

His growth has been recognized across the league, earning him three All-Star selections and two All-NBA honors. With his leadership and elite scoring ability, Edwards is now focused on bringing an NBA championship back to Minnesota for the first time in franchise history.
