The Toronto Raptors may have something up their sleeves this offseason, as Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly has mutual interest with the Canada-based squad.
According to Toronto Star’s Doug Smith, the Toronto Raptors could be a wildcard trade destination for Antetokounmpo since they have enough assets to potentially convince the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I don’t know if it will happen, but I do know there is mutual interest between Antetokounmpo and the Raptors. The wild card is the cost. But I also think the Raptors are uniquely placed to make an attractive offer that won’t ruin their franchise or roster,” Smith said in his mailbag article.
“I would make the case that a logjam at the wings makes them deep enough that if they had to pay even two out of Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji, Ja’Kobe Walter, RJ Barrett, Jonathan Mogbo would still leave enough to fill out a pretty good team with promising young players still developing. Plus, they have all their picks, so giving a first-rounder every year for, say, four years, leaves enough,” he added.
The Toronto Raptors have a boatload of assets, including the ninth overall pick of this summer’s NBA Draft. If they don’t trade the first-round pick, the team could use it to select Kon Knueppel from Duke.
“Every team figures to have some level of interest in Kon Knueppel’s shotmaking, efficient scoring and easy fit. The question is who’ll see upside through the athletic limitations,” Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman wrote in his mock draft.
“Viewed as a safe pick with a valued, bankable skill in shooting, Knueppel also flashed strong driving ability and high-level, ball-screen playmaking reads,” he added.
