The Chicago Bulls got blown out by the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night, 136-101, following the premature exit of star point guard Josh Giddey. The 23-year-old was forced to leave the game in the third quarter because of a hamstring injury. Giddey headed to the locker room to be checked by the medical staff, and it was not long after that the Bulls announced he was out for the remainder of the game.
Chicago then ruled out the 6-foot-7 guard for its next game, which is on Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans. It has now been revealed that the Bulls will be without Giddey for an extended period.
Giddey is in the midst of a career year in his second season with the Bulls. In 30 games played thus far, the former No. 6 overall pick has produced averages of 19.2 points on 46.6% shooting, 8.9 rebounds and 9.0 assists, while also knocking down 1.9 triples per game on a highly efficient 38.6% clip. Simply put, Giddey has been the best player on the Chicago roster this season.
Unfortunately for the Bulls, they will need to face their next few games without their star. This is after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Tuesday night that Giddey will be sidelined for multiple weeks.
“Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey has sustained a left hamstring strain and will miss at least a few weeks, sources tell ESPN,” Charania posted on X.

This is a tough blow for the Bulls, who currently have a 15-17 record. They won five in a row earlier this month, but they have now fallen below the .500 mark after two straight losses. Chicago has a tough stretch ahead in January with Giddey on the shelf.
On a personal level, this injury will have a significant impact on Giddey’s All-Star campaign. Now in his fifth year in the NBA, Giddey has never been named an All-Star in his career. This is shaping up to be his year, but this injury could potentially see him fall out of the race.
The NBA announced the results of the first round of votes for the upcoming All-Star Game in February. With 115,000 votes, Giddey was 14th in the Eastern Conference.
A total of 24 players will be selected as All-Stars. The 10 starters will be determined by fan votes (50%), players' votes (25%) and media votes (25%). The 14 reserves, on the other hand, will be selected by NBA coaches.
