Victor Wembanyama Recorded A Historic Triple-Double Against the Raptors

Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs entered the game against the Raptors on a seven-game losing streak. The Frenchman ensured it would not extend to eight, as he finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 10 blocks to lead the Spurs to a 122-99 win.

It was an astounding performance that landed Wembanyama in the history books. He became just the fourth rookie ever to record a triple-double with at least 10 blocks, after Mark Eaton (1983), Ralph Sampson (1983), and David Robinson (1990). Robinson actually ended up doing it thrice, and Wembanyama could potentially match him by the end of the season.

The 20-year-old also became the first player to record 10 blocks in a game since Clint Capela had 13 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 blocks for the Atlanta Hawks against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Jan. 22, 2021. Wembanyama is showing already as a rookie why he was regarded as one of the greatest prospects in NBA history when he was entering the draft last year.

The combination of size and skill is just otherworldly, and it's scary to think that he is only going to get better from here on out. If Wembanyama stays healthy, it's hard to see how he doesn't go down as one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen.

Metta Sandiford-Artest Believes Wembanyama Will Score 101 Points In A Game Someday

While Wembanyama has put up stat lines that we haven't seen in a very long time, former NBA player Metta Sandiford-Artest believes he can break a record that has stood for over 60 years. Sandiford-Artest said Wembanyama will score 101 points in a game.

“He’s unbelievable. He reminds me of Wilt. He’s coming in dominating, but not quite ready," said Artest. "No center has ever had the same skill set that Wembanyama has. Once he gets a little bit bigger and continues to get smarter works on his game and continues to do yoga, he will score 101 points. I won’t be surprised if he scores 95% of the points at some point in time. I think it’ll take him five to eight years to score 101 points.”

Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record of 100 points all the way back in 1962. The closest anyone has come to that mark was Kobe Bryant, when he recorded 81 points against the Raptors in 2006. Sandiford-Artest thinks Wembanyama, who is averaging 20.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.2 blocks per game as a rookie, will be the one who breaks that record.
