The Philadelphia 76ers selected VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

VJ Edgecombe will be utilized heavily in the Philadelphia 76ers‘ rotation and could even start with Jared McCain out with a right thumb UCL tear.

Edgecombe did start in the 76ers first preseason game against the New York Knicks and he had his moments as the 76ers lost to the Knicks 99-84.

In 31 minutes of action, Edgecombe finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. He shot 4-for-13 from the field, including 1-for-6 from three and he went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

VJ Edgecombe says Vince Carter is ‘an elite comp’ but he just wanted to ‘make the dunk’

Edgecombe is an exciting player that 76ers fans have to look forward to watching this season.

During his preseason debut against the Knicks, Edgecombe almost completed an insane highlight reel dunk.

Edgecombe elevated on Mitchell Robinson and almost finished a wicked one-handed slam.

After the game, someone in the media told Edgecombe that he might be the next Vince Carter. Edgecombe was blown away by the comparison and remained humble.

“That’s elite! That’s an elite comp. I’m VJ man, the comparison’s cool, but I just want to make the dunk.”

VJ Edgecombe says he wants to be a superstar in the NBA

Edgecombe possesses elite athleticism and has outstanding leaping ability.

The 76ers will take a long look at Edgecombe during the preseason as he could step into an expanded role right away.

Along with his explosiveness, the 20-year-old is a disruptive defender as he averaged 2.1 steals per game over 33 games for Baylor in 2024-25.

Edgecombe has a chance to truly flourish in Philadelphia and become a star. He talked about being around Joel Embiid and Paul George and how he wants to join them in superstardom.

“Having PG, Joel all them around they are superstars in the league, that’s something I want to be when I get there.

“Obviously it’s going to take time by working hard, all the little stuff, I’ll try to pick their brains a lot, what do they see on the floor, they have a different perspective from me… I’ll try to learn from them a lot.”

The sky’s the limit for Edgecombe who will have plenty of opportunities to show what he can do this season.
