The Warriors are re-signing free agent center Charles Bassey to a one-year contract, reports Shams Charania of ESPN ( via Twitter).
Bassey, 25, finished out last season with Golden State after bouncing around the league in 2025/26. He was productive in a small sample size during the final week of ’25/26, averaging 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in five games with the Warriors (20.0 minutes per game).
The 53rd overall pick in the 2021 draft, Bassey spent his first four NBA seasons with the 76ers and Spurs, appearing in 113 games and averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per contest from 2021-25. However, despite a strong Summer League showing last July in Las Vegas, he was unable to secure a regular roster spot at the NBA level for much of ’25/26.
Bassey signed a 10-day hardship contract with the Grizzlies in October, inked a pair of 10-day deals with Philadelphia in January and February, and spent nearly three weeks with the Celtics on two more 10-day contracts in March and early April. He signed with the Warriors on April 5 and was an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The Nigerian big man had a much larger role in the G League in ’25/26, averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 20 games (29.9 MPG), with a shooting slash line of .606/.426/.654. The majority of those appearances (17) came with the Warriors’ affiliate team in Santa Cruz.
Bassey is entering his sixth NBA season. As Charania notes, the Warriors recently declined to match the offer sheet Quinten Post signed with Memphis, so Bassey will provide depth in the middle behind veterans Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.
Charania didn’t specify the terms of Bassey’s contract, but there’s a good chance it’s a minimum-salary deal. It also seems likely to be either non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed, given Bassey’s fairly limited NBA role last season (he played 13 total games).
