While some NBA fans believe veteran Draymond Green would be the Golden State Warriors player asking about the team’s future, he says that role is typically reserved for All-Star Stephen Curry. While the team awaits its direction in the offseason, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is no longer under contract. Green is entering the final season of his contract, which could lead to a potential extension.
Either way, Green set the record straight on how Curry will most likely be the first Warriors player checking in with the front office this summer, he said, per Post Moves with Candace Parker & Aliyah Boston.
“Like everything is lighthearted with him, except it’s really not. Like, he has this demeanor of like, everything is cool. And he has this like, baby-faced assassin. Like that’s his demeanor, and that’s who he is,” Green said. “Everything is cool. Except everything’s not. He will have any tough conversation. Steph is willing to have a tough conversation before I’m willing to have a tough conversation.
“He thrives in tough conversations. And within the chaos, this guy thrives. When it gets chaotic, he comes alive. He’s straight to the point. He’s direct, it’s this, it’s that, done. Moving on.”
Warriors veteran Draymond Green reflected on Klay Thompson’s departure from the other team he’s ever played for. For Green, Thompson’s joining the Mavericks after their 2024 championship run marked the end of the Warriors’ dynasty.
“A part of this era ended when Klay left. When Klay left, it was a little different. But it’s still us three and Q Dog, our assistant coach, who has been here the whole time,” Green said. “It’s still a lot of people. Our trainer, Drew Yoder, is still a lot of people. Chris DeMarco just left to take the New York Liberty job. It’s a lot of people around that’s been in here the entire time.”
Ahead of a critical offseason, the Warriors will have to make a decision that will determine the course of their immediate future, including whether to extend head coach Steve Kerr’s contract or hire a new head coach to guide the team into its new era.
