The Golden State Warriors started off the new season with a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night and they will now try to pick up back-to-back wins as they host the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.
In Tuesday’s victory over the Lakers, the Warriors used a strong third quarter to pick up the 119-109 victory behind Jimmy Butler’s 31 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Stephen Curry also had a great game as he recorded 23 points and four rebounds while Jonathan Kuminga played a key role as well as he dropped 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists against Los Angeles.
Now Golden State will try to pick up another key victory on Thursday night against Denver as they try to start their season off 2-0.
Ahead of Thursday’s contest, the Warriors made a key decision regarding veteran center Al Horford who signed with the team in free agency during the offseason.
According to The San Francisco Standard’s Danny Emerman, the Warriors plan to bring Horford off the bench once again in Thursday’s game against Denver and he will be limited to around 20 minutes, which is what he played in the season opener against the Lakers.
Warriors planning to bring Al Horford off the bench again tonight, even against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. He played 20 minutes in the opener, which is about where GSW want to keep him at. Won’t play tomorrow night in Portland for the second end of back-to-back.

Emerman also reported that Horford will not play in Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers due to it being the second night of a back-to-back.
This is a massive report by Emerman as it appears as though the Warriors are being cautious with the 39-year-old veteran big man to begin the season since they did not sign him until the beginning of October.
In his first game of the season against the Lakers, Horford played 20 minutes off the bench and recorded five points, five rebounds and one assist while shooting 2-for-7 from the field and 1-for-4 from 3-point range.
Now the veteran big man will once again be limited on Thursday against the Nuggets, though Steve Kerr’s decision to bring him off the bench is an interesting one with Denver having Nikola Jokic leading the way for them.
Despite this, Draymond Green will get the start at center once again for the Warriors against the Nuggets where he will be required to try and slow down the three-time MVP as the Warriors look for back-to-back victories to begin the season.
Horford will also be sidelined in Friday’s game against the Trail Blazers as the Warriors are electing to keep him out of the second game of the back-to-back, which could see both Quinten Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis have an increased role.
Fans can catch Thursday’s matchup between the Nuggets and Warriors at 10:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.
