It has been an underwhelming offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they have not made any roster moves outside of the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Of course, the Warriors are still trying to figure out their situation with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, which has caused them to miss out on multiple free agent targets.
Whether Kuminga elects to re-sign in Golden State or if he is moved in a sign-and-trade, the Warriors will still need to fill spots on their roster before the start of next season.
It has been reported that the Warriors do have deals in place with multiple free agents but they could also look to sign others once Kuminga’s situation is resolved.
One player Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes Golden State should target in free agency is former first overall pick Ben Simmons as he would give them another Draymond Green-like player.
“Simmons is similar in many ways to Draymond Green. Neither has earned their contracts through individual scoring, but through defense and playmaking,” Pincus wrote. “Simmons wouldn't fit alongside Green, but could be a valuable reserve behind him, so that the team doesn't need to alter its style of play.”
Pincus does make a compelling point as he compared Simmons to Green, which the Warriors could look at if they do decide to target Simmons in free agency.
Simmons would give the Warriors another great wing defender off the bench while also giving them a much-needed playmaker outside of Stephen Curry.
Of course, the 29-year-old would be a massive boost to Golden State’s bench, which was a major problem area for them last season as they try to make a run at a championship next season behind their star trio of Curry, Green and Jimmy Butler.
Despite this, the Warriors could look elsewhere to upgrade their roster this offseason as they are in need of a center and three-point shooters, both of which Simmons does not fall under.
