The Golden State Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the playoffs this year in five games after beating the Houston Rockets in the first round in seven games.
The Warriors won Game 1 in Minnesota, but two-time MVP Steph Curry suffered a Grade 1 left hamstring injury and missed the rest of the series. Without Curry, Golden State lost four games in a row.
Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green are expected to be back with the Warriors next season. However, one NBA analyst is predicting that the team's third-leading scorer behind Curry and Butler will be gone this summer.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report believes the Warriors will sign-and-trade Jonathan Kuminga this offseason. Kuminga becomes a restricted free agent this summer.
"Kuminga, who'll be a restricted free agent this summer, is almost certainly going to be on a different team in 2025-26, but Golden State can't really afford to let him walk for nothing," Bailey wrote.
"As outlined above, it doesn't really have great trade assets after Curry, Butler and Green. Kuminga is probably the best. And while moving him in a sign-and-trade could hard-cap the team in 2025-26, it's probably the best way to get anyone of decent value back this summer," he further added.
Kuminga appeared in 47 games for the Warriors during the 2024-25 regular season. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 66.8% from the foul line.
Kuminga turns 23 in October. He has career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
As a restricted free agent, Kuminga can either re-sign with the Warriors or sign an offer sheet with another team. The Warriors would have 48 hours to match an offer sheet or let Kuminga walk.
According to Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Kuminga and the Warriors are expected to explore sign-and-trade options this summer.
