Soon after yet another failure this season, the Golden State Warriors are making a lot of effort to build a strong roster for next season. Recently, the Warriors were rumored to be eyeing the No.11 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. And now, another piece of news suggests that the Warriors’ front office is showing significant interest in Kawhi Leonard.

NBA insider Evan Sidery reported that the Dubs are emerging as a strong contender to land Leonard this summer. This development comes in following Giannis Antetokounmpo’s lack of interest in joining Stephen Curry and Co.

“The Warriors are being connected as a trade suitor this summer for Kawhi Leonard. With Giannis Antetokounmpo not showing much interest in joining Golden State, they appear ready to pivot to Kawhi. Golden State figures to be active in the marketplace to maximize their window,” Sidery wrote.

For a long time now, the Warriors have been looking to form a powerful trio alongside Curry and Jimmy Butler. And although their primary choice was Antetokounmpo, recent reports suggested that the Bucks’ star might be interested in joining the Boston Celtics.

Meanwhile, if JJ Redick and company manage to land Kawhi Leonard, he could become an excellent fit for the Golden State Warriors.

Will Choosing Kawhi Leonard Instead of Giannis Antetokounmpo be Worth it?

For the Warriors, the addition of the Los Angeles Clippers’ star will be a major boost. As the franchise has a ‘win-now’ motive, Leonard’s recent form will help in forming a fearsome lineup. This year, the 6-time All-Star appeared in 65 games for the Clippers. Despite Los Angeles struggling as a team, the NBA superstar averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.

His shooting, too, was quite impressive. The 34-year-old had 50.5% shooting from the field and a solid 38.7% from the three-point mark. Despite dealing with heavy defensive attention, Leonard’s workload of 32.1 minutes per game was highly appreciable.

Thus, it is evident why the Warriors are targeting the star player over Antetokounmpo. Now, if the trade does happen, fans will be eager to see how things pan out.
