As the 2025-26 NBA season nears, one Western Conference team is still trying to upgrade their roster amid a very underwhelming offseason.
That team is the Golden State Warriors as they have failed to make any additions to their roster outside of their two selections in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Of course, the Warriors were expected to be active this offseason to upgrade their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green as they looked to make a run at a championship next season.
Instead, Golden State is still awaiting a decision by restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, who has cost them multiple free agent targets.
While the Warriors are still awaiting Kuminga’s decision, they reportedly do have deals in place with multiple free agents that could be completed after the situation surrounding Kuminga is resolved.
NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson recently added to these reports as he reported that the Warriors and five-time NBA All-Star Al Horford have a verbal agreement in place.
“Veteran big man Al Horford, I’m told has made a verbal commitment to join the Warriors, but his arrival also depends on how the Kuminga situation unfolds,” Robinson wrote.
This is a massive report by Robinson but one that is not a complete surprise as many expected Horford to either sign with the Warriors this offseason or potentially retire from the NBA.
For the Warriors, they have been in desperate need of a starting center for many years and while Horford is 39 years old, his fit in Golden State’s lineup looks like a solid one on paper.
Horford is coming off a season last year with the Boston Celtics where he averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 42.3% from the field and 36.3% from three.
The veteran big man is a great scorer who will be able to space the floor in Golden State due to his three-point shooting and he is also still a reliable defender for his age.
Of course, the Warriors will likely wait to sign Horford until after their situation with Kuminga is settled, which could allow another team to steal him from them if it takes too long.
