One of the benefits of Luka Doncic getting traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025 was the increased off-court earning opportunities he would get. Dallas is by no means a small market, but being in L.A. next to all the major studios allows him to be a routine fixture in commercials.
One example of that is Gatorade’s new commercial about the hydration benefits of their product, which used a host of various superstar athletes across sports. Doncic, as the Lakers star, was both the first and last player to be singled out in the advertisement, via Gatorade:
The future belongs to those who hydrate. #IsItInYou pic.twitter.com/3lfc1Xl5m4
— Gatorade (@Gatorade) September 16, 2026
The commercial focuses on the science behind Gatorade’s ability to hydrate, and that is might be even more effective than water in doing so. Doncic stars alongside Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson, among others.
These players are all among the best of the best in their respective sports and leagues, making them the perfect figureheads for this new Gatorade campaign. Doncic is the only one of this group actively still in the offseason, with a massive season ahead for the Lakers star.
He’ll be leading a new-look Lakers squad in the hopes of landing the team’s third-consecutive 50-win season next to Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler and more.
The Lakers recent trip to Slovenia — led by Doncic — overlapped with Aug. 24, otherwise known as Kobe Bryant Day in the Los Angeles and sports community. The Lakers honored him by spending a portion of the day at a hospital in Slovenia, a moment that was hugely meaningful for Doncic and the entire Lakers roster.
Not only were the Lakers at the largest hospital in Slovenia, but it was also the hospital where Doncic was born. A nurse would present Doncic with his baby chart from that day, and the Lakers superstar was even able to meet the doctor who delivered him for the first time.
Things like this don’t always seem like a big deal to some, but these moments can mean so much to fans and how much Doncic is loved in his home country was evident throughout this video. Players were learning Slovenian words, Austin Reaves swore that he would be visiting the country again, and Doncic even signed a baby at one point.
